FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is fused glass?
Fused glass is the art of melting or fusing pieces of glass together in a kiln. This form of art typically requires multiple day-long firings in a kiln at temperatures up to 1460 degrees Fahrenheit.
How do you make the glass?
All of our glass items are handmade. Most of our glass is cut from sheets with stained glass cutting wheels and broken with running pliers. Some more complicated items are cut from glass sheets using a glass ring saw. Items such as our murrini are cut using mosaic glass nippers. After the glass is cut and assembled, it is loaded into a kiln and fired. After one firing, some items have to go back in to fit the shape of a mold.
Why are some glass pieces more expensive than others?
Similar pieces may have varying prices due to the glass being used. Glass colors are made from oxidized metals so glass prices typically reflect the price of metals being used. Pieces made out of red, orange, or yellow glass are typically expensive because they are made out of glass that contains oxidized gold and/ or oxidized cadmium.

How is fused glass different than stained glass?
Fused glass is the process of cutting pieces of glass layering them and fusing them together. Stained glass is the process of cutting pieces of glass, and soldering them together. Although the glasses used in each may appear to be similar, glass for fusing can be used as stained glass, but glass for stained glass cannot be used for fused glass. This is because fused glass requires testing to see how much it will expand during the fusing process, so the glass used in fused glass must all be compatible.
Why are there small bubbles in the glass?
All of our items are hand made and each is unique. There are innate characteristics of the glass that may create small bubbles or other slight imperfections when fired to nearly 1500 degrees Fahrenheit. This is a natural occurrence with all glass and does not diminish the beauty of the piece.
